Optimizing nitrogen fertilizer use for more grain and less pollution

چکیده

Optimal nitrogen (N) management is critical for efficient crop production and agricultural pollution control. Approximate 210–220 kg ha ?1 N fertilizer was applied in millions of small plots through broadcasting way China, resulting over loss fertilizers. However, it difficult to implement advanced practices on smallholder farms due a lack knowledge. Here, using 35,502 on-farm fertilization experiments, we demonstrated that smallholders China could actually produce more grain with less use only optimizing application rate. The yields wheat, maize rice were shown increase between 10% 19% while rates reduced by 15–19%. These changes resulted an efficiency (NUE) 32–46% reduction surplus 40% without changing farmers’ operational practices. By reducing line official recommendations would not save cost increasing yield, but also at the same time reduce environmental China. Beyond rate, improved required pollution, which need about 11.8 billion US dollars implementation 1.75 million tons environment. • Optimizing rate estimated based field experiments nationally. increased NUE lower surplus. Environmental predicted be 5.06 t Best strategies result reduction.

Strategies for optimizing nitrogen use by ruminants.

The efficiency of N utilization in ruminants is typically low (around 25%) and highly variable (10% to 40%) compared with the higher efficiency of other production animals. The low efficiency has implications for the production performance and environment. Many efforts have been devoted to improving the efficiency of N utilization in ruminants, and while major improvements in our understanding ...

Nitrogen Fertilizer Deep Placement for Increased Grain Yield and Nitrogen Recovery Efficiency in Rice Grown in Subtropical China

Field plot experiments were conducted over 3 years (from April 2014 to November 2016) in a double-rice (Oryza sativa L.) cropping system in subtropical China to evaluate the effects of N fertilizer placement on grain yield and N recovery efficiency (NRE). Different N application methods included: no N application (CK); N broadcast application (NBP); N and NPK deep placement (NDP and NPKDP, resp...

Optimizing the Use of Distiller Grain for Dairy-beef Production

Optimizing the use of distiller grain (DG) is becoming increasingly important as ethanol production increases. Dairy-beef production is a system that has the potential to use large amounts of DG. Threehundred and twenty Holstein steers (420.7 + 71.5 lbs initial wt.) were fed finishing diets at the University of Illinois Beef Research Unit. Forty pens were each randomly assigned to ten treatment...
